Ergonomics Research
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
  1. Who utilizes the Center's research capabilities?

Product and process engineers, product designers, ergonomists, health and safety personnel, equipment vendors, trade groups, consumer groups, educators, other researchers, and marketing professionals utilize the Center's customer-centric research outreach.

  2. Who would I be working with in research?

Applied research solutions at the Center are driven by a customer-centric approach. The applied researchers are trained ergonomists, engineers, mathematicians, and exercise physiologists motivated to uncover the real questions a client is interest in answering and providing technically accurate solutions. At the Ergonomics Center, the researchers understand that a technically correct answer to the wrong questions is a waste of the client's time and resources.

  3. What types of questions can be answered by research at the Center?
Applied research at the Center can answer general, broad-based and specific questions relating to ergonomics and biomechanics. For example, clients come to the Center with questions, such as:
    • Is the proposed layout (equipment, product or process) really better?
    • How much less physical effort will be required by a change?
    • Which option should I recommend?
    • How can we make this product, tool, process better?

Others come to the Ergonomics Center with very specific questions, such as:
    • How is the muscle activity affected by a specific change in an assembly method?
    • How much less torque will be required by using a new tool?
    • How much less force will be required by using a new method?
    • Is this job too physically taxing when the employee is wearing additional safety equipment?

  4. What type of information do I need to get involved in research at the Center?

Only five pieces of information are necessary to get introduced to research at the Center.
